Administrative Assistant - Direct Mail Department

Our Direct Mail Department is seeking an experienced Administrative Assistant who is proficient with MS Office, with an emphasis in Excel and PowerPoint. Candidate must be detail-oriented, organized and able to multi-task while meeting deadlines. This is a full-time position. The hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Overall Responsibilities:
  • Assist Strategic Analysts and the Director of Direct Mail with administrative and clerical duties as assigned in a fast-paced office environment
  • Compile reports for daily distribution
  • Participate in strategy meetings and prepare accurate meeting notes
  • Generate emails and reports when appropriate
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations
  • Respond to questions and requests for information as necessary
  • Maintain filing system of direct mail appeals and acquisitions
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced office environment

Peer-to-Peer Fundraising Specialist

Writer

Food For The Poor is seeking a writer who is professional, motivated and organized with a real passion for helping the less fortunate and for telling their stories. The writer will have excellent reporting, communication and written skills, and the ability to write gripping, emotional stories about extremely poor people. The writer will join an award-winning team that produces a variety of communications to publicize Food For The Poor’s work and the impact on the people of the countries it serves in the Caribbean and Latin America. The writer must travel with a photographer to the countries Food For The Poor serves to conduct interviews and gather research to produce written, spiritually motivated stories for fundraising.

Overall Responsibilities:

Writes direct mail appeals and other fundraising materials. Travels to and gathers information and research from beneficiaries in the countries Food For The Poor serves. Brainstorms creative ideas and troubleshoots fundraising appeals.

Duties:
  • The writer must travel, along with the photographer as a team to the countries Food For The Poor serves to conduct interviews and gather research in order to produce emotive, written, direct-response non-profit fundraising copy reflecting spirituality in a donor-friendly and donor-centric manner.
  • Writes emotional direct mail appeal and acquisition copy. Writes other fundraising materials, including but not limited to, thank-you letters, reminder letters, annual report stories, newsletter stories, program books, scripts, ads, flyers and brochures.
  • Writes copy for other departments, including Special Events, Major Giving, TV and Radio, Donor Relations and Emerging Media.
  • Coordinates and fact gathers for accuracy of stats and numbers for various fundraising appeals including but not limited to the organization's annual report.
  • Rewrites or changes copy according to edited comments.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and multi-task a variety of writing assignments under pressure with an eye for consistent messaging.
  • Active participation in concept development and brainstorming for fundraising campaigns that align with the organization's overall brand.
  • The ideal candidate is ethical, has good organization skills, can grasp project requirements quickly, offer valuable insight and is a team-spirited, skilled and imaginative writer with an eye for detail.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Managing Editor.
Skills and Qualifications:

Service Advisor – Donor Relations

Food For The Poor is looking for a compassionate, upbeat bilingual (English/Spanish) Service Advisor for our Donor Relations Department. A successful candidate is at ease with speaking over the telephone and praying with donors. The ideal candidate is a team player who is not easily discouraged and maintains a positive attitude in an energetic fundraising environment.

This is a full-time position and the hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

A passion for prayer is an essential function for the Service Advisor position.

Overall Responsibilities:
  • Make follow-up calls to donors to discuss contents of campaign appeals, follow up on Direct Mail pieces, and request donations
  • Respond to questions, inquiries and prayer requests sent in by donors and offer to pray with them
  • Track donor calls in the AS400/Synthesis computer program
  • Stay current on Food For The Poor’s programs and services to convey information to donors in a compelling, heartfelt manner
  • Make calls to donors on special occasions such as holidays, birthdays and anniversaries to congratulate, encourage and offer prayer
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Ability and willingness to pray with donors
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and listening skills
  • Excellent telephone etiquette
  • Ability to deal with positive and negative responses, handle objections, and speak with conviction about the plight of the poor
  • Ability to speak persuasively with passion and integrity

  • Ability to work independently and sit in a chair for extended periods of time

Director of Planned Giving

Overall Responsibilities:

Develop, promote, and expand the planned giving program and direct program activities in coordination with the organization’s fundraising efforts to achieve goals, prepare departmental budget, manage departmental operations and staff, and network with outside groups and individuals to promote Food For The Poor’s planned giving programs. This is a full-time, management position in the Planned Giving Department.

  • Broad, in-depth knowledge and understanding of planned giving products/programs

Outbound Caller – Church Assignment Coordinator

Contact churches throughout the United States to obtain, schedule and coordinate weekend visits for clergy speakers to share the plight of the poor on behalf of Food For The Poor.
