Director - Special Events

 

If you are a dynamic individual who can coordinate galas and events for 400 or more individuals, all while managing a dedicated, hard working Special Events staff (within budget), achieving fundraising goals, and acquiring new donors, then this is an opportunity of a lifetime for you.

 

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Special Events Department activities and staff as well as all administrative aspects of the department including development, strategic planning, and cost control/budgeting
  • Direct and oversee the department’s event activities throughout the country for the purpose of acquiring new donors (both individual and corporate donors), and attain a higher level of commitment, participation, and charitable giving from existing donors while creating a positive awareness of Food For The Poor
  • Expand existing events, create new events, and identify new galas in the Florida market

Qualifications:

  • BS or BA degree in marketing or a related field
  • Minimum 10 to 15 years of experience in fundraising, marketing, sales, public relations, event coordination with a successful track record in a wide spectrum of events; major gifts experience and nonprofit experience preferred
  • Knowledge of fundraising, marketing, finance, major gifts solicitation, and donor relations
  • Understanding of Food For The Poor’s vision and mission
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, including public relations and diplomacy
  • Creative and self-motivated
  • Strategic planning skills
  • Supervisory skills, including hiring and training staff
  • Flexible with ability to travel
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook and AS400 database systems, plus Internet and social media proficiency required

Strategic Analyst

 

Put your analytical skills to work in a rewarding career where you’re helping to make a real difference. You’ll apply your analytical abilities to seeking ways to improve the direct mail revenue of one of the largest international charities that feeds starving children, shelters poor families and helps lift the destitute out of poverty.

 

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Analyze direct mail results, tests and triggers to make strategic recommendations on programs and upcoming mailings.
  • Recommend selection criteria based on analysis and ROI projections.
  • Update LTV and other fundraising performance reports.
  • Assist in developing direct mail schedule and budget for the coming year.
  • Manage list rentals/exchanges to maximize acquisition investments.
  • Prepare data files and splits for mailings and tests.
  • Write strategy memos for direct mail packages.
  • Manage direct mail projects to ensure they are executed as strategized and mailed on time.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Detail oriented, yet with the ability to see the bigger picture and discern trends and opportunities and make strategic recommendations.
  • Good with numbers.
  • Good instincts and insights as to what triggers motivate donors to give.
  • Ability to evaluate and balance sometimes conflicting objectives such as increasing ROI on a specific appeal vs. cultivating donors and reactivating lapsed donors.
  • Ability to effectively communicate fundraising strategies to provide initial direction to the Creative Services Department.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Excel and Word.
  • Experience with DataLever, AS400 or similar programs/databases desirable.
  • Experience with WebFOCUS or other business intelligence tools a plus.
  • Experience with Crystal Reports a plus.
  • Experience in analytical modeling a plus.

Education:

  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Marketing, Statistics or related field.

Experience:

  • Two to three years experience in direct mail marketing and/or statistical analysis.
  • Knowledge of postal regulations a plus.

Assignment Coordinator

 

Food For The Poor shouldn’t be the best-kept secret anymore! Our Speakers Bureau is seeking an individual with excellent customer service skills who is comfortable making outbound telephone calls to clergy and churches throughout the United States.

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Schedule assignments for staff priests and ministers to speak about Food For The Poor during weekend church services
  • Arrange and coordinate details of each weekend assignment for the speakers
  • Record notes of church contacts in donor file

Qualifications:

  • At least three years experience in customer service, fundraising or equivalent
  • Excellent telephone communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Good writing skills
  • Good office clerical skills
  • Ability to work with or without supervision
  • Ability to prioritize duties, remain focused, and work as a team member
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft applications (including Excel)

Church, School, and Community Development Project Coordinator

 

Are you an organized, determined, charismatic fundraiser, passionate about building relationships and helping the poor? Food For The Poor is seeking a talented person with integrity who will serve as a direct link between the organization and churches, schools, businesses and community groups looking to partner on relief and development projects. Your hard work will result in tremendous blessings for needy people in the Caribbean and Latin America, and also for the groups you will connect with here in the U.S.

 

Overall Responsibilities:

 

Follows up on Speaker assignments/evaluations to promote participation from churches and their related organizations in special projects for Food For The Poor. Creates and develops long-term relationships with churches, schools, businesses and/or community groups to foster their commitment, increase donations, and raise project funds. This is a full-time position in the Church, School and Community Development Department.


Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree is preferred with at least three years of sales, marketing, public relations or fundraising experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment
  • Fundraising background is a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships
  • Ability to take initiative and follow through with projects
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus

Radio On-Air Fundraiser

 

Overall Responsibility:

In-Studio Fundraisers (“Day of Hope” Campaigns)

  • Travel and host 12-13 hour “radio-thons” (approximately 40 campaigns per year). Responsibilities include strategic and production directives, quantitative analysis, goal setting, and on-air voice/talent role.

Telephone Interviews (live and live-to-tape)

  • Participate in telephone interviews as required.

Media trips to Haiti, Jamaica and other countries we serve

  • Invite participants, assist in planning itinerary, and conduct a pre-trip conference call for participants. Assist in leading mission trips with radio personalities, general managers, and industry VIPs.

Audio Production (trips and editing)

  • Travel on audio production trips each year depending on the radio partner and the format of the fundraiser.
  • Coordinate with Food For The Poor’s Projects Department to determine the communities and individuals to be interviewed.
  • Conduct interviews in the field with a focus on individual stories, statements of need, appeals for help, and thank yous. The goal is to get clean, compelling audio for on-air fundraising purposes. Work with Multi-Media Producer on audio and video editing.

Conferences

  • Speak onstage at Food For The Poor events as needed.
  • Network to strengthen existing partnerships and forge new ones. Find out what stations are looking for in a ministry partner and promote Food For The Poor to new contacts.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of radio-marketing trends and practices.
  • Follow up on leads after each conference.
  • Provide a written report to the Director of Marketing summarizing the outcome and results of conferences.
  • Explore new fundraising possibilities.

Qualifications:

  • BA degree or equivalent in related field
  • At least 10 years experience in fundraising, marketing, communications, advertising and broadcast
  • Understanding of the Christian radio market and general media marketing
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills, including relationship building and public relations
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to travel extensively

Clergy for our Speakers Bureau

 

Clergy needed to be the voice of Christ on behalf of the poor. Full Time and Part Time positions are available at times for English and bi-lingual (Spanish) speaking Roman Catholic Priests and Deacons, Episcopal Priests, Lutheran Pastors and Methodist Ministers. Those interested would preach throughout the US on behalf of Food For The Poor's ministry to destitute families in Latin America and the Caribbean. Commitment is only for weekends.
