Mr. Alvaro J. Pereira
Alvaro J. Pereira is the Executive Vice President of Food For The Poor and a longtime member of FFP's Board of Directors. Pereira is a leader in the international nonprofit sector, having founded and helped create four international relief organizations.
Pereira is leading Food for the Poor’s expansion actions and working to build relationships with governments, like-minded international agencies and foundations. The international nonprofit community has honored Pereira with several awards for his work in relieving the suffering of the poor. Pereira is a Knight of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta. He serves on his parish council, is a member of the John Carroll Society in Washington D.C. and is a member of Who’s Who among Hispanic Americans. Pereira holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University.
Born in Nicaragua, he immigrated to the United States at the age of 17. After living in several states and countries, and extensive international travel, Alvaro Pereira and his wife Barbara along with their three children currently reside in Fort Lauderdale. Pereira is fluent in English and Spanish.
