Feeding Centers

Food For The Poor operates several feeding centers as well as community and school feeding programs in the countries we serve. Our feeding centers provide lifesaving food to families who have nowhere else to turn. Sometimes, the meal an individual receives at a Food For The Poor feeding center may be the only nourishment he or she receives that day.
For more than 20 years, Food For The Poor’s Port-au-Prince feeding center has provided daily meals to thousands of poverty-stricken Haitians. Open Monday through Saturday, the center’s cooks begin work at 6:30 a.m., preparing enough food for more than 14,000 meals each day. Approximately 2,500 pounds of rice and 400 pounds of dry beans are prepared and served. Meat and vegetables are also added to make a complete, nutritious meal. Two to three thousand people line up daily to receive food to take home to their families, which typically include five to eight children and adults.
School feeding programs in countries like Jamaica also offer much-needed nutrition to young children. Without adequate nutrition, students can become listless and may have difficulty learning. Literally providing food for thought, Food For The Poor’s school feeding programs not only help children receive the nutrition needed for proper physical development; they also help students excel in their studies and obtain an education.

FAST FACTS - FEEDING CENTERS
|
Providing food to the hungry is a central facet of Food For The Poor’s ministry. In addition to meeting immediate needs through our feeding programs, however, we also work to provide destitute communities with the means of becoming self-sustaining and capable of feeding themselves. Our fishing villages and tilapia ponds, for example, provide food and a sustainable source of income for an entire community. Similarly, our agricultural and animal husbandry programs nourish bodies and refresh spirits. Food For The Poor provides the starter materials and training for growing vegetable crops and fruit trees, as well as instruction in how to raise goats, chickens and other animals for sustainable food supplies.
Because of generous donors like you, Food For The Poor is able to provide much-needed food to children and adults who are not able to feed themselves. Thank you for reaching out to help ease the hunger of these desperate families.
