Child of the Month - Facts
- An estimated 146 million children in developing countries are underweight - the result of acute or chronic hunger (Source: The State of the World's Children, UNICEF, 2009).
- Up to 17 million children are born underweight every year.
- One billion people throughout the world suffer from hunger, a figure which has increased by 100 million because of the global financial crisis, according to the UN.
- High food prices persist in developing countries despite an improved global cereal supply situation and a sharp decline in international food prices, according to the food and Agriculture Organization.
As a Child of the Month program participant, you simply decide how much you want to give each month and that money goes directly to programs that focus exclusively on poor children throughout the third world.
Food For The Poor uses your gift to provide food, housing, clean water and educational items to millions of children every day, helping us ensure that no child goes without. The children throughout the areas that Food For The Poor serves rarely get the opportunity to dream about “what they want to be when they grow up,” for these children their dreams are about having enough food to eat, water to drink and a safe place to sleep at night.
When you join the program, as soon as we receive your first monthly gift, you will begin receiving:
- Food For The Poor’s monthly web newsletter
- A 2010 Food For The Poor calendar
- Child of the Month monthly newsletter with updates about each featured Child of the Month and past children of the month
