Love

Love, Age — 9

(June 2010) After Haiti’s earthquake claimed the lives of both of her parents, 9-year-old Love’s first name has taken on even deeper significance.

In the wake of the January 12th disaster, a Good Samaritan found the little girl living alone in the streets of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The benevolent stranger then transported Love to an all-girls orphanage run by Food For The Poor miles away in northern Haiti.

Marbella, Age — 7

(December 2009) "She is a Miracle of God." This is how the nun who cares for 7-year-old Marbella recently described her newest patient. Marbella was brought to our supported home and clinic by her dying mother. The little girl is HIV-positive and has a mixture of meningitis and tuberculosis — normally a deadly combination.

Marbella arrived severely underweight, with bad flu symptoms and diarrhea. She hardly spoke. Half of the young girl’s body is paralyzed, and she is unable to raise her left hand. This innocent little girl had every reason to lose all hope.
