Carlos’s Story

Just 6 years old when his mother died, Carlos ended up living on the street.  After spending several years living in cardboard boxes and begging for scraps of food, Carlos arrived at an orphanage in the Dominican Republic. He now lives in a home for boys supported by Food For The Poor.

Carlos, now 9, is a tranquil, soft-spoken boy who enjoys sports, school and his new friends. He sums up his new life simply: “I don’t go hungry here.” Carlos is a contemplative child who taps his head in serious thought when he answers questions. He is extremely polite, and well spoken. Despite his grim past, it is clear that Carlos has a bright future.

An eager student, Carlos hopes to become a pastor. “I want to be a good Christian,” Carlos said. “I like to go to church to sing and pray. I’d love to help people who are poor… who are sick.”

To help promising children like Carlos, consider becoming a member of Food For The Poor’s Child of the Month Club.
