Christian’s Story
Christian was nearly tossed onto the streets when his family decided they no longer wanted to care for him. Today, at Christian’s orphanage in Honduras, he receives food, clothing, and most of all, compassion and the love he was denied. “He’s an honor student,” said Androlla de Mitri, founder of the small orphanage in San Pedro Sula.
“I told Christian, ‘You’re so beautiful,’ when he would protest how ugly he was. He was expecting me to hit him because people were always hitting him. I told him, ‘I’m not going to hurt you, I’m going to hug you. No one is going to lay a hand on you,’” Mitri said. At the orphanage, Christian slowly began to understand how precious his life is. No one hit him or abused him. He received plenty of food and no longer had to fight for scraps. He didn’t know what a spoon was, or how to say “Please” or “Thank you” but he quickly learned. Now Christian extends the love he’s felt to other new children. When three abandoned children arrived at the orphanage the day of his birthday, Christian was beaming. It wasn’t the cake and the treats that brought him joy.
“He said, ‘God gave me three new brothers and sisters. He sent them as a gift,’” Mitri said. Innocent children like Christian need your help in order to heal the wounds of the past and have the chance for a future. Please consider becoming a member of Food For The Poor’s Child of the Month Club by reaching out to help a child in desperate need. “For I rescued the poor who cried out for help,
the orphans and the unassisted…” (Job 29:12)
