Love’s Story

Join Our Children in Need Program Child of the Month, Love

Love lost both her parents to Haiti’s earthquake on January 12th. Today, at Love’s new home, she is receiving essentials like food and clothing as well as educational and spiritual support.

At 9 years of age, Love has never been to school, but will be given the opportunity this September. She is very excited about “writing my A-B-C’s,” she said. And every Sunday, a nun comes to the home to teach the girls about God.

Love after with dolls

One of the home’s staff members laughed when describing Love’s unique qualities. She described Love as “really clever” and “very responsible.” Possibly as a result of having been through so much at such an early age, Love has been found instructing her friends to clean up after themselves instead of waiting for staff members to do it.

The little girl’s hobbies include playing soccer and caring for her doll, but her biggest wish is for a bike. When asked why she likes her doll so much, Love said with a smile, “Because it looks like a real baby.”

She named the doll “Lovely” after herself and cares for her meticulously. It’s amazing how those who have lost so much continually wish to care for others.

Innocent children like Love need your help in order to heal the wounds of the past and have the chance of a future. Please consider becoming a member of Food For The Poor’s Child of the Month Club by reaching out to help a child in desperate need.

“For I rescued the poor
who cried out for help,
the orphans and the unassisted…”
(Job 29:12)
