Counting Your Loss

But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ - Php. 3:7

Sometimes to count Jesus Christ as a gain one must be willing to count something else a loss. That is the message the apostle Paul was trying to convey to the church at Philippi. In doing so, he puts himself as an example. And well he should. Paul once sat under one of the greatest teachers of the law. He had acquired an abundant knowledge of the Scriptures. He was well respected among his peer. When Steven was being stoned to death for his defense of the Gospel, it was Paul who stood by giving his approval. Then Jesus stepped into his life and transformed him.

What are you willing to count as loss for the sake of growing deeper in Jesus Christ, Beloved? It may not compare to what Paul gave up. Or the stakes may be even higher. It may be that you have to give up an ideal, a goal. Perhaps God requires you to give up a relationship that is drawing you away from Him. It could be that Christ is asking you to count as a loss things in your past that have brought pain and count Him as a greater gain instead. What are you holding unto that you know God is asking you to consider a loss for Christ’s sake? Lose it and you just may end up gaining a lot more than you ever bargained for.
