All Nighter for the Poor — FAQs…
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the event? How does it work?
As the name indicates, it’s an “all-nighter…for the poor!” Along with other college groups, high school groups and youth groups, your organization will stay up all night (optional) on Friday, October 16th to raise money for the poor in the Caribbean and Latin America. Up until this date you’re welcome to start your fundraising at any time. Through sponsorship and donations, your group will help fund programs that enable poverty-stricken communities to feed themselves.
Why October 16th?
October 16th is World Food Day. This worldwide event is intended “to increase awareness, understanding and information” in an “action to alleviate hunger.” (www.worldfooddayusa.org)
Who’s Food For The Poor?
Food For The Poor (FFP) is the largest international relief and development organization in the United States. For more than 27 years, we’ve been helping the poor of the Caribbean and Latin America through both direct relief and sustainable development projects. Maybe you’ve heard the expression, “Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime.” Food For The Poor strives, where possible, to give destitute communities the tools they need to break free from the generational cycle of poverty.
Where will the event be held?
At your place…and ours. While your organization will host the local All-Nighter event, you’ll be linked via Internet to Food For The Poor’s USA headquarters in Florida and to other colleges, universities and high schools that are also participating. On Friday night, October 16th starting at 7 p.m. EST, FFP will share stories, videos, information and more live…it’ll be an informational and entertaining night! And you’ll be up throughout the evening, connecting with family and friends, and asking them to sponsor you to help raise funds for projects that save lives.
How will the funds be used?
Funds raised from the All-Nighter for the Poor will be used to support crucial programs including:
- Feeding Programs
- Fishing Villages
- Tilapia Fish Farms
- Fruit Tree Nurseries
- Animal Husbandry/Farming Projects
Food For The Poor has an impressive record of efficiency with the donations we receive. More than 96% of all donations go directly to programs that help the poor. And Food For The Poor has received the highest possible ratings from industry observers, including Charity Navigator, Ministry Watch and the Better Business Bureau.
How do I get involved?
To participate in the All-Nighter event, you and your group should contact Food For The Poor to register. The pre-registration deadline is Tuesday, August 25th. You can call us at 1-877-654-2960 or e-mail info@allnighterforthepoor.org. Over the next few months, we’ll be sending you information and resources to help make participation very simple for you…and very beneficial for the poor. You can also check out the initial Checklist of things to do this semester to prepare for the event.
In short, the more people who participate in this event, the more money is raised — and the more people are helped!
So please, jump in with both feet and help us reach out to those in need… while having a great time. All-nighters have never been so much fun — or helped save so many lives!!!
