A special sacrifice to honor our Lord
Please help feed hungry children.
Santos Maria, a mother of seven, sobbed as she spoke about her family. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she said, “There are days we eat and days we don’t. Whatever money we have, we buy rice and beans.” Santos and her children live in a one-room shack in Honduras. Each day is a struggle for survival. Her children’s eyes reflect the anguish of their ongoing hunger. Throughout the Caribbean and Latin America, countless mothers like Santos are unable to ease their children’s hunger pains. Like Mary watching her Son in agony on the cross, these mothers must bear the pain of helplessly watching their children suffer. During the season of Lent, we reflect on the ultimate sacrifice Christ made for us. What better way to honor and glorify Him than by making a sacrifice to help others who are suffering? Our Lenten devotional calendar features daily Gospel readings and suggested activities that encourage us all to embrace the sacrificial spirit of Lent. Through Jesus’ selfless act of love, we have the gift of eternal life. I’m praying that you will share Christ’s love with others by giving a gift to provide lifesaving food to hungry children and their families. Your sacrificial gift will help answer the prayers of desperate mothers like Santos. Your compassion and generosity will be a testament to the love of Christ shining through you. Santos relies on her faith to give her strength. She says, “The minute I kneel down to talk to God, I feel the presence of the Holy Spirit.” She prays that the Holy Spirit will touch the hearts of people like you to help feed her hungry children. Lent is a time to reflect on Christ’s sacrifice and His ultimate victory over death. This Lent, give a gift to celebrate Christ’s resurrection by providing lifesaving food to hungry children in the Caribbean and Latin America. Any gift you give will be appreciated.
