Answering THE CALL Special Thanksgiving Edition

Can you imagine going days without food?

Marvin’s hardened belly is full of parasites instead of nutritious food.
Marvin’s hardened belly is full of parasites instead of nutritious food.

In Food For The Poor’s November newsletter, we explored the notion of what we have to be thankful for. How often do we take for granted the blessings of food, clean water and a safe place to live?

For Marvin Castro, a malnourished 2-year-old boy in Guatemala, there would not appear to be much in his life to be thankful for. Just about every day, he cries from hunger. His mother Blanca is undernourished herself and unable to provide for him.

“I feel sad. I feel sorrow,” said Blanca. “In order to get him the help he needs, we need money and we don’t have money. I pray every day. I ask God to make him healthy… to have enough food so we don’t spend a day without.”

Marvin is at risk of becoming another victim of the food shortage that is plaguing Guatemala’s countryside. But we have a unique opportunity to bless Marvin and his family with a gift that will prevent tragedy and give them cause to jump for joy: nutritious food.

This holiday season, we have a chance to cause celebrations all over Latin America and the Caribbean by providing the blessings of nutritious food, clean water and safe shelter. If you’re thankful for your many blessings today, what better way to show gratitude and praise God for His provision than by meeting these basic needs for poor families?

We are thankful for all who answer this holy, awesome call to help brothers and sisters in need!

“Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good,
for His kindness endures forever.”
