Bring incredible blessings to families in need

Home for Rosa Amilda Reyes and her four children is essentially a black plastic tent with crumbling mud walls. Without a locking door, the children are constantly worried about home invaders. Rosa worries about the home caving in and collapsing on them while they sleep. For ten years, they have lived like this, enduring violent thunderstorms tearing at the plastic and turning the dirt floor to mud. She prays constantly for a new house to keep them safe.

“I’m afraid the house will collapse upon us during one of the storms,” Rosa said. “My oldest one said to me, ‘I can’t wait to get older so I can work hard and get you a new home, Mama.’”

In Haiti, Julienne Benjamin and her children sleep on mats on the dirt and are forced to stand during nightly rainstorms because the house floods. Their “home” consists of sticks supporting a tin roof, offering little protection from the elements.

“I’m scared at night,” Julienne said. “I can’t really sleep because I’m always worried something bad might happen. It’s not safe. I ask God for protection and strength and courage, because the living conditions are so bad.”

This is the sad reality for millions of poor families in the Caribbean and Latin America. So many children are growing up in unsafe, unsanitary hovels, as their poverty-stricken parents can afford nothing more.

But today, we have an opportunity to bring incredible blessings to families in need of safe shelter. Thanks to generous supporters who believe in our mission to uplift the poor, gifts we receive by 2/29/12 to our "Welcome to My Home" housing campaign will be matched dollar-for-dollar. This means that with every gift of $3,200 to build a home, you will actually build TWO houses!

Food For The Poor houses feature a simple but efficient design to shelter poor families. Our houses are specifically tailored to weather the elements of each individual country, to ensure families are protected. The secure, corrugated roofing keeps out rain, while the solid walls and locking doors give children peace of mind to sleep safely through the night. The homes we build are well-constructed and designed to fend off heavy rain and storms.

We have a rare chance to create real change in countries struggling to cope with skyrocketing poverty. We can help build communities where people can live in dignity, peace and safety. And with the offer we have to match all gifts to this home-building initiative, now is a great time to multiply these blessings to even more people in need.
