Food For The Poor dedicated its new headquarters in Coconut Creek, Florida on January 17, 2007 with a ceremony that also marked the organization's 25th Anniversary. Food For The Poor is the largest charity in Florida and the foremost provider of aid to the Caribbean and Latin America.
This new building consists of office and warehouse facilities for more than 300 persons and results in significant cost savings and more efficient operations, as employees had previously been located in three separate buildings in Deerfield Beach. The transition from rental space to owned corporate headquarters provides the organization with a substantial cost reduction.
For fiscal 2006, Food For The Poor realized $862 million program expenses in aid to the countries it serves, and reports an administrative cost ratio of less than 4% its lowest ever. According to Robin Mahfood, president of Food For The Poor, "During 2006 Food For The Poor distributed 4,054 tractor-trailers of food, medicines, medical supplies, books, educational supplies and emergency relief aid. In 2006 we built 7,003 homes, which were given to the poor. Since 1982, we have provided over 40,000 homes for destitute families. The cost savings realized from our new corporate facilities will enable us to expand the aid to the Caribbean and Latin America, while continuing our emphasis on maintaining the lowest operating cost ratio possible."
In addition to remaining the second-largest international charity in the United States, Food For The Poor continues to rate among the most highly respected charities in the nation. Forbes magazine, in the December 2006 Annual Investment Guide to Charities, reported, "Food For The Poor's charitable commitment ratio was an impressive 96%, in contrast with the average for the top 200 charities in the U.S. of 86%, and its fundraising efficiency ratio was 97%, compared to the average of 90%." Charity Navigator has again awarded Food For The Poor its highest rating for fiscal efficiency.
Food For The Poor does much more than simply feed the millions of hungry poor in 16 countries of the Caribbean and Latin America. Since 1982, we have provided clean water, medicines, educational materials, homes, support for orphans and the aged, skills training and emergency relief, with more than 96% of all donations going directly to programs that help the poor.
