![]() ![]() For many destitute women, the vicious cycle of poverty is often passed from one generation to the next. In developing nations where “public” education is not free, countless women lack the education they need to adequately support their families. Instead of attending school, young girls must work alongside their mothers to help support their families. ![]() Every day in Honduras, Maria Zepeda and her 8-year daughter, Carolina, sift through a garbage dump in search of hope. With no other source of income, the two scour a local dumpsite for recyclable items, raw materials and food. For mothers and daughters like Maria and Carolina, working at the dump is demeaning and dangerous. In many of the countries we serve, it is difficult for women to find jobs and earn an income for their family. Sadly, innocent girls like Carolina are forced to follow in their mothers’ footsteps, with little hope for a brighter future.
