The Boca Grande Friendship Village
The inaugural Boca Grande Event, lead by Committee Chairmen Ben and Louise Scott, Sr. was held at the Power House Boca Bay Pass Club on March 9th. An enthusiastic crowd of 200 guests attended the premier fundraiser for the Boca Grande Friendship Village in Pierre Payen, Haiti. Pierre Payen is a coastal village populated by about 100 families. As victims of the earthquake move out of Port-Au-Prince, the population in Pierre Payen has increased.
The Boca Grande Friendship Village will provide approximately 240 people with safe housing, clean water, sanitation, agriculture, including 500 avocado, mango and citrus trees, animal husbandry and a community chicken farm, a community center and a solar charging system for electricity.
The event began with a cocktail reception, followed by a presentation by Scott, committee member Tom Lorden, and Food For The Poor Executive Director, Angel Aloma. Stories were shared describing some of what they have seen during Mission Trips to Haiti.
Committee Members: Rev. Jerome Carosella, George & Lois Castrucci, Patricia Chapman, Ray & Iliene Corcoran, Charlie & Florita Field, Jack & Donna Harms, Stephen & Susan Jensen, Tom & Nancy Lorden, Ed & Nora Lee Reefe, Vince & Judy Shaw, Bruce & Barbara Stirling, David & Mary Jo Wilson.
