Belize is a beautiful Central American country about the size of Massachusetts. Poverty is widespread, however, with more than 40 percent of the population living below the poverty line.
High levels of unemployment, growing urban crime, and increasing incidences of HIV/AIDS are major obstacles to the country’s growth.
Food For The Poor began working in Belize in 1986. The international relief and development organization helps local groups that serve in the Central American country. These local organizations assist impoverished rural communities, providing help to more than 2,400 families and 60 schools throughout the country.
