“This, rather, is the fasting that I wish… Sharing your bread with the hungry, sheltering the oppressed and the homeless; clothing the naked…” (Isaiah 58:6a, 7a)
We warmly welcome Pope Benedict XVI on his first apostolic visit
From feeding the starving in Haiti to building houses in Nicaragua, Food For The Poor reaches out to the physically impoverished, restoring hope and faith in God’s mercy and goodness.
In Haiti, a hungry child’s cries for food are answered… in Jamaica, a desperate mother is given a new, safe house to shelter her children… in Guatemala, a child lingering on the brink of death receives love, nourishment and healing from the nuns who run a clinic there.
Food For The Poor strives to follow Christ’s mandate to care for the poor. Desperately needed aid is distributed through local clergy, churches and other missionaries; this expression of God’s love infuses new hope in the lives of the needy.
The late Bishop Paul M. Boyle, C.P., past Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and member of the Speakers Bureau of Food For The Poor, visits with Pope Benedict XVI, who blessed and encouraged the organizations work.
Food For The Poor is the second-largest international relief organization based in the U.S.* More than 96% of all donations received go directly to programs that help the poor. By supplying materials that are specifically requested by clergy working in Latin America and the Caribbean, we serve poverty-stricken areas in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible.
Food For The Poor works with Catholic churches, here and abroad, in answering God’s call to care for the destitute. Together we continue to serve our brothers and sisters who are most in need.
