Farewell dinner before leaving Quetzaltenango |
“…and healed their sick.”
(Matthew 14:14)
When we arrived in Guatemala City, it was getting late in the afternoon — towards early evening. We decided to meet for dinner at the hotel and to have our reflection that night during dinner. It was an inspiring reflection. All explained what they were going to be doing for the poor of Guatemala after their return home. It was putting faith into action. Now that there was awareness, action and advocacy would follow. Everyone committed to doing something about the poor that we had seen.
At dinner, we were served by a young man that I later found out grew up in one of the orphanages that we support in Guatemala. We had a long conversation after the dinner. At 18 years of age, he left for Guatemala City and was working there, but in July he will be returning to the orphanage to work there as a supervisor of children. It was uplifting to see this very nice young man, who is a product of the orphanages we help to support. We all had an early night, since our return flight to the U.S. was leaving at 7:00 a.m.
We all woke up very early and left the hotel on time, got to the airport on time, and traveled back home. It was a beautiful, deeply touching trip.
¡Adios, Guatemala!
