Time running out for Haiti's poor

A new crisis is looming in Haiti, where four devastating storms tore through the tiny island nation in the span of a month last year, and a leading charity says thousands of destitute Haitians face starvation.

Determined 9 year old looks for donors to help build homes in Haiti

Inspired by a recent visit to Food For The Poor, Rachel Wheeler, 9, plans to build a "baker's dozen" of homes in Haiti. Rachel joined members of Lighthouse Point's Chamber of Commerce for a tour of Food For The Poor headquarters in Coconut Creek. Rachel listened carefully and asked a lot of questions during the presentation by Robin Mahfood, President and CEO of Food For The Poor.

Deerfield Beach and Lighthouse Point Chamber members broaden their global awareness

Members of Deerfield Beach and Lighthouse Point Chamber of Commerce visited Food For The Poor recently for a special event. The Deerfield Beach Chamber of Commerce and Food For The Poor have had a relationship for many years. In January 2007, Food For The Poor's headquarters relocated from Deerfield Beach to Coconut Creek.

Good Morning America to honor Food For The Poor donor for house-building efforts in Jamaica

Former waitress Barbara Gilbert who raised money to build Food For The Poor villages in Jamaica, with the help of many Jacksonville residents, has been named a semifinalist in For All the Ways You Care contest. She will appear Monday, May 4, on Good Morning America as one of 10 semifinalists in the national contest sponsored by CVS Pharmacy.

College students raise funds

Lynn University students have raised funds to build a basic school in Jamaica, a water well in Haiti, and to purchase and ship 1,000 pounds of rice and beans to Jamaica for the destitute through a series of on-campus events, ranging from living in tents, a 5K walk/run, to a public forum.

Seaboard Marine makes gift of $35,000

Continuing a long-time commitment to Food For The Poor, Seaboard Marine delivered a check this week for $35,000 that will help the relief and development agency continue to provide necessary aid to the poor in 17 countries in the Caribbean and Latin America.

Volunteers meet U.S. Secretary of State Clinton in Haiti

When U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton visited Haiti this month, volunteers serving on the USNS Comfort had the chance to shake her hand and talk with her briefly about Food For The Poor.

Haiti's Poor Receive Medical Aid From Crew of USNS Comfort

The very young and the elderly who are served by Food For The Poor in Haiti received medical treatment this month as part of the hospital ship USNS Comfort's deployment in Haiti, the first of seven countries the ship will visit as part of a four-month humanitarian mission in the Caribbean, Central and South America.
