| "...whoever does the will of God is My brother and sister and mother." (Mark 3:35) |
The two boys seemed perplexed. Gerson David and Julio Murillo, impoverished Honduran youngsters we met a year ago, were confused by the request made of them when we visited recently. What was so special about standing atop two empty plots of land?
Then, with their families in attendance, both boys were told that what they were actually standing on was the future site of their families' new Food For The Poor homes. Both boys received a congratulatory cake that read “Bendiciones” (or “Blessings”) as the groundbreaking ceremonies began. Julio stood incredulously. Gerson broke into tears. For an 8-year-old boy who’s never lived under a proper roof, the thought of living in a new home is inconceivable at first.
Gerson David and Julio Murillo are not typical youngsters. Gerson cared for his mentally and physically handicapped siblings while living in his family’s decaying hut, located in a dangerous neighborhood. And, in search of food, Julio used to sift through a garbage dump located directly next to his family’s shack.
Now, Gerson and Julio will be next-door neighbors, both receiving new houses and new hope. The lives of these two youngsters have been changed forever — through the compassion of our generous supporters.
