| "Make known to me Your ways, Lord; teach me Your paths." (Psalms 25:4) |
Educating children is key to breaking the cycle of poverty and providing hope for future generations. Many impoverished parents dream of sending their children to school and giving them the opportunity to have a better life.
At the Minna Carr Basic School in Jamaica, one woman’s dedication to the community resulted in her opening a small school for the youngest children. Forty-six years ago, Minna Carr went from teaching Sunday School to running her own school in order to give destitute children a head start. But decades later, improvements to the program were needed. Many of the young pupils arrived at school without eating breakfast and were listless and tired. Principal Sylvia Carr Robinson, whose mother opened the school, had limited resources.
She even dug into her own pocket to feed those who were most malnourished.
“I’m concerned about the school very much because it’s the only school in the community. I love children and I don’t want to see them suffer,” she explained.
Through your support, schools are supplied with food, milk, furniture, books, teaching materials and other essentials. Food For The Poor provided the Minna Carr Basic School with food and other essentials, and also built a library and a new latrine.
“I pray a lot for this school. God answered my prayers,” a grateful Ms. Carr Robinson commented.
Your gifts help us to ignite the spark of learning in children — a spark that becomes a glowing light in the darkness of poverty. Through your support, you enable children to have a brighter future. Thank you for giving children the opportunity to learn.
