Quenching their thirst
Quenching their thirst

"He changed the desert into pools of water, arid land into springs of water..." (Psalms 107:35)

Water is life, yet the poor frequently lack access to fresh water. For the 118 orphaned and abandoned children at the SOS Children’s Village in Jamaica, the only available water supply involved hauling buckets of water back to their dorms. The area is known for its severe droughts.

Late in the year, a fire broke out. Two children, ages 4 and 5, were killed. The tragedy emphasized the desperate need for improving the orphanage’s water system.

Quenching their thirst
"You couldn't understand how happy I am now. We don't have to worry about water anymore," said Donna Palmer, Program Director at SOS Children's Village Orphanage in Jamaica.

Food For The Poor funded a project to run piping from the backup tank to all the group homes. The backup water tank was cleaned and covered, enabling the orphanage to once again store water. SOS program director Donna Palmer said the entire orphanage is grateful.
