What could you give a family with nothing?
What if you had absolutely nothing?

Everything

They have absolutely nothing.

I want to provide hope

Lacking food, basic shelter, a source of income and an education, many poor families in the Caribbean and Latin America are so destitute they need everything. Although these families long to become self-sufficient, they are forced to live in hovels and beg for scraps. All they ask for is a “hand-up” — not a handout.

Lifelong poverty has diminished hope and numbed the spirit of Ojani Desino, a mother of five in Haiti. When asked to choose the one thing her family needs the most, Ojani responded simply, “Everything.”

Food For The Poor’s “Everything for a Family with Nothing” package relieves the suffering of poor families through a combination of solutions that address both short-term and long-term needs. *The package includes:

A sturdy new Food For The Poor home that will provide an unsheltered family with safety, security and brighter possibilities for the future. This home also includes a latrine for additional sanitation and dignity.
Participation in a self-help program that offers poor families the skills training needed to earn sustainable sources of income.
School supplies (including books and uniforms) for two children, giving them the chance to thrive through education.
A one-year supply of food that will help a hungry family make the transition from poverty to a self-sustaining way of life.
A gift of clothing and shoes that offers destitute children the basic dignity that all children deserve.

Such a tremendous gift is relatively inexpensive, considering the remarkable impact it can have on a family for generations to come. Each element in this all-inclusive package is closely connected to the others. A family with nothing needs each of these elements to break the cycle of poverty that has plagued families for generations.

I want to provide hope

The amazing changes that are brought about through these solutions can be seen in a child’s smile and in a mother’s expression of contentment. Hope is renewed as the chance to escape all-encompassing poverty is offered to a family in desperate need. May God bless you for sharing your blessings with families who have nothing.

*In cases where a family may not be in need of a particular element in the package, that element will be applied to another family who can benefit from it.
