Those who had nothing have even less now
In August, September and October, three major hurricanes swept across Latin America and the Caribbean, further exposing poor families who were already vulnerable and enduring treacherous living conditions.
Hurricanes Dean, Felix and Tropical Storm Noel ravaged makeshift huts throughout Jamaica, Haiti, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic and Honduras. These flimsy homes, made of wood, corrugated metal and palm fronds, were the only shelter destitute families had. Today, amid the rubble of what once constituted their meager shacks, devastated poor families realize that what little protection they once had no longer exists.
In response to this urgent need for housing, Food For The Poor and Catholic Online have partnered in launching “A Home for the Holidays.” This life-altering housing project gives compassionate people like you the opportunity to transform lives by building a sturdy new Food For The Poor home for an unsheltered family.
This can be accomplished in two ways:
1) You can individually offer your help directly through this Web page.
or
2) You can set up a “Friends and Family” page that asks friends and family to help you build a sturdy home for an endangered family. Please click here to access this module.
Food For The Poor builds homes for the destitute for $2,600 — a modest amount, considering the incredible transformation that takes place in the lives of those in need. Any gift to help shelter a suffering family will be a blessing, especially in commemoration of the holiday season.
“This, rather, is the fasting that I wish…
sheltering the oppressed and the homeless…” (Isaiah 58:6a-7a)
Thousands of vulnerable families throughout Latin America and the Caribbean are in need of shelter right now. Through collective Christian charity, Food For The Poor and Catholic Online hope to partner with people like you to relieve the suffering of vulnerable unsheltered families. May God bless you for sharing the news of this blessed holiday opportunity with your friends and loved ones.
