COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (April 16, 2008) –The annual Food For The Poor 3-2-1 Fun Walk  was a tremendous success, raising enough to feed 10,000 people.

Nearly 300 walkers gathered at the Food For The Poor campus on Saturday, April 5 to help poor families in the Caribbean and Latin America.  Some of the participants who got there early took advantage of complimentary chair massages from Align Your Spine Chiropractic Life Center while others stretched, slathered on sunscreen, or just mingled.  By 9:30 a.m., the walkers were on their way –some jogging, some pushing strollers, most taking a leisurely pace, but all having a great time.

When they finished the course, the walkers enjoyed sub sandwiches donated by 620 Subs, watched performances by Dance Broward, stopped by the Coconut Creek Police Department table to chat with officers, struck a pose with Sparky the firedog from Coconut Creek Fire Rescue, or just relaxed in the shade and enjoyed the music of the Fun Walk deejay.

Food For The Poor’s Angel Aloma said this year’s walk was not only a fun family event, but inspirational too. “It was so moving to see our community come together to help people caught in the cycle of poverty,” he said.  “With their help, we’ve raised enough to feed more than 2,500 families for a month.” 

Coconut Creek Mayor Becky Tooley joined in the Fun Walk festivities and presented Aloma with a City Commission proclamation naming April 5, 2008 as “Food For The Poor Awareness Day”. 

Fun Walk sponsors this year include Align Your Spine, Aljoma Lumber, Inc., Comcast, Coconut Creek Seminole Tribe of Florida, Excel Events and Productions, and the Miami International Triathlon.
