Desperate for Food,
They Scour through Garbage
Imagine sifting through a dumpsite in search of your next meal.
Many of God’s poorest across the Caribbean and Latin America must pick through garbage with bare hands searching for food or recyclable items that will yield a meager income. They compete with their friends and neighbors for the “prize” of half-eaten food and small items to sell. But there is one thing they will never find at these dumpsites… human dignity.
The work can be dangerous and sometimes deadly. The food is often contaminated. The children walk barefoot amid the trash. Smoke, flies and vultures are everywhere. It is truly a forsaken scene.
The families you’ll meet in our May newsletter represent the suffering of thousands of people who search for hope amid all-encompassing poverty and pray for a better life for their children.
Your compassion and generosity can bring human dignity to those forced to work at the dump. Your gift today will help provide food, education and other necessities that will alleviate much suffering. Please help Food For The Poor continue to reach out to these poor families who are in desperate need.
“The LORD raises the needy from the dust,
lifts the poor from the ash heap…” (Psalm 113:7)
