Dolls for World Peace generously donated 750 handmade dolls to be shipped and distributed to orphans in Haiti by Food For The Poor.

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (June 25, 2008) - At the Springtree Assisted Living Community in Sunrise, Fla., 25 seniors sew day and night making dolls. Dolls for World Peace gives some of the residents something to look forward to, and others a reason to live. They are passing along their gifts of peace and comfort to Haitian orphans, through a generous donation of 750 handmade dolls to be shipped and distributed by Food For The Poor.

Many of the residents from Springtree Assisted Living Community have serious illnesses such as Alzheimer’s, diabetes, arthritis, Parkinson’s, and other disorders; however they forget their aches and pains when they are sewing. Their families cannot believe the changes in their health.

“Food For The Poor is extremely grateful to the hardworking ladies of Dolls for World Peace,” said Angel Aloma, Food For The Poor’s Executive Director. “Each doll is a unique labor of love. The children who will receive these dolls will feel blessed and comforted knowing that someone they do not know, cared enough about them to send a token of their love from America. This doll may well be their only toy.”

Haiti’s devastating food crisis captured the hearts of Americans when The Associated Press reported that mud cookies sustain Haiti. Mud cookies, made with clay, bullion, oil and salt and baked in the sun, have unfortunately become one of the only answers to quelling a child’s hunger pangs for many poor mothers. 

Food For The Poor, the largest provider of aid to Haiti, feeds and shelters millions of destitute children and their families in Haiti. Through its expansive networks of island-wide distribution hubs, Food For The Poor supports thousands of partners feeding the poorest of the poor. Together with its donors and missionaries, Food For The Poor continues to fight the battle against starvation in Haiti.

Donations are being collected to help feed poverty-stricken Haitians. For $12 a month a family can be fed for a month in Haiti. Checks should be made out to Food For The Poor and include a special code “SC# 065192” so the money can be tracked to the “The Haitian Relief Project” campaign.
