8/25/08 Aid Agency Ready for Hurricane Season

-MEDIA ALERT-

Coconut Creek, Fla. (August 25, 2008) – As aid agencies like Food For The Poor work to help the victims of Tropical Storm Fay in the Caribbean, a new threat –Tropical Storm Gustav –is poised to hit Haiti and the Dominican Republic early Tuesday morning.

A hurricane warning has been issued for parts of Haiti and the Dominican Republic where just days ago, Tropical Storm Fay caused flooding, mudslides, and killed 23 people.

Prior to the start of hurricane season, Food For The Poor shipped essential disaster relief supplies such as tents, generators, emergency stoves, lanterns, hygiene kits and more to the Caribbean.  And, thanks to a donation from Abbott Laboratories, thousands of potentially lifesaving products like antibiotics, rehydration fluids, nutrition bars and nutrition shakes are on hand to help in Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.

“We’re ready for a busy hurricane season in the Caribbean,” said Aloma.  “We have the resources in place to get help to those who need it most.”

And though Aloma says Food For The Poor employees in the Caribbean are ready to swing into recovery mode after Gustav passes, he says any additional help is always appreciated.
