Give a Gift of Food this Thanksgiving
Share Your Blessings

This year, give thanks by giving food to hungry families.

This Thanksgiving, you might use a basket or colander to prepare food — but starving children in Haiti sometimes use them as instruments to catch food.

Living in a shack surrounded by swamp waters, Roman Vilbrun’s young children descend into polluted waters each day to hunt for tiny crabs to eat. The family has no other source of food.

With baskets and strainers in hand, Roman’s malnourished little ones spend hours gathering a meager amount of crabs that offer little nutrition. Because of this unhealthy diet, the children regularly suffer from intestinal parasites, including worms. But with no other options, Roman is forced to feed the crabs to all her children.

In despair, she prays for help, “God, you see me here. Please help me. My body walks … but my spirit is dead.”

For many of us, Thanksgiving Day involves an abundance of food. But for Roman’s children, this day will be spent scouring swamp waters for any semblance of nutrition.

The only times Roman’s family finds a smattering of food is if a neighbor is gracious enough to share. This Thanksgiving, please be a neighbor to families like hers by helping to provide them with something to eat.
