Trapped living in the path of danger, along a major highway in northern Honduras, 3-year-old Juana knows it’s frightening when her home shakes as cars and trucks barrel down the road and water pours on her when it rains as she sleeps, but she’s too young to understand why her mother cries regularly.
The innocent toddler doesn’t realize that a car flipped from the road and crushed the house next to them. She is too young to know that whether or not she, her mother and her three siblings will have nutritious food depends on chance — how many oranges her mother can convince their neighbors to buy. Or that she will have little opportunity to escape her family’s situation: Her mother, Maria, has not been able to pay the school fees for Juana’s older siblings to go to school for even one day this year.
Sometimes it seems so hopeless, Juana’s mom cries out to God for strength to keep going.
“He’s the only one who can do anything for me,” she says.
Impoverished families like precious Juana’s are at risk, struggling for decent housing, clean water and nutritious food every day. You can help answer their prayers.
